Recognition

🛡️ Our Commitment to Wildfire Safety

Oak Ridge Estates, nestled on California’s Central Coast, is proud to be a nationally recognized Firewise USA® site as of May 22, 2025. This honor reflects our community’s dedication to wildfire preparedness, risk reduction, and active resident involvement. Through strategic vegetation management, neighborhood-wide fuel-reduction events, and ongoing public education, we’re strengthening resilience against the unique wildfire challenges of the Central Coast’s landscapes.

🔖 Recognition, Not Certification

Firewise USA communities—like ours at Oak Ridge Estates—are “recognized” rather than “certified” because the program celebrates collaborative, local efforts—organizing neighbors, following adaptable safety guidelines, and sustaining a long-term journey toward wildfire resilience—without suggesting a single professional credential or that every home is entirely wildfire-proof. Certification implies rigid standards or funding qualifications, but Firewise recognition simply acknowledges that our Central Coast neighborhood has taken its first voluntary steps to reduce risk and will continue learning, adapting, and improving collective safety.

🔍 Community Wildfire Risk Assessment

We extend heartfelt thanks to Battalion Chief Dave Van Son and his fire prevention colleagues for their support. They conducted a community-wide drive-through evaluation and consulted with Darren Shetler of Castlerock Development to help build our comprehensive plan.

A thorough Community Wildfire Risk Assessment was completed, along with an addendum to address updated vulnerabilities.

📘 Community Wildfire Action Plan (2026–2028)

As of May 2025, Oak Ridge Estates spans 850 acres with 58 households and an estimated 120 residents. Nestled in the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, it lies within CAL FIRE-designated High and Very High Fire Severity Zones in the wildland-urban interface.

This three-year action plan was created with community input and guidance from fire officials and the Fire Safe Council. It outlines phased strategies to improve wildfire preparedness through education, home hardening, defensible space, and evacuation planning.

Each year’s goals are organized into the following categories:

  • 📚 Community Education and Outreach
  • 🧱 Home Hardening
  • 🌿 Defensible Space / Fuel Reduction
  • 🚨 Evacuation Planning and Preparedness
